The post that should be titled...

"Darcy Wants to Halter Break Something."

Consider yourself forewarned.

...................................................................

This is 1066...

And her baby, who I am quite fond of...

Did I tell you she has a "big 'ol hip" in her?

And that I want to put a show halter on her? Because I do. Now if only I can convince "The Clinton"...

And then there's Dorito...

She knows what a show halter feels like!

Here with her calf "Cheeto"!

Dorito was a calf that the Gourley girls showed along with...

Ruffles!

Are you sensing a theme yet? Ruffle's is the cow on the left...

She's a daughter of 939.

And her bull calf was our first Mission Statement calf born this year...

Isn't that a great name for a bull? We are really liking our Mission Statement babies...not to be corny, but they're making a statement!

OK, so that's pretty corny...

And don't forget 6603!

She's a 939 daughter too....that 939, she makes some 'darn good females!

And while 6603 is gentle, she's not halter broke.

But I think her calf should be...

Her calf is out of Orange 4, who is a bull Wade and Clint raised....

Well, really just Wade since he was born in Idaho...

And we didn't get him until he was a yearling...

He wants a halter put on him too...

In fact, when we were at Karl's Tuesday to load up Commander, when we pulled into the driveway, Orange 4 came running up to the pick up and trailer and hung out. I think if we would have opened up the door, he would have jumped right in!

But instead, we loaded up Commander....

4 will get turned out with a separate group of cows tomorrow...

Speaking of tomorrow, we're pulling CIDRs, and you know what that means...

AI'ing.

And hopefully another post next week...

With pictures of people, for those of you who are tired of looking at just cows...

But wait, there isn't anyone like that who reads this blog. Right?

Have a great weekend!

They'll be watching...

The Matriarch's

Every cow herd has those special females.

Here's 5042...

Her real name is King's Miss 5042

But it's really easy to call her something else...something I shouldn't publish here...

If you knew 5042, you would agree with me...especially during calving time.

But she really is a great cow.

And she's had some great calves....including my favorite, who isn't a matriarch yet, but I'll show her here...

She's 1.

You might say that 1 is my favorite...maybe.

Oh, I can't fool anyone. So what if 1 is my favorite?

But 1066's heifer calf this year is going to give her a run for her money!

Oh, there she is. She wasn't having any of my shenanigans....besides, there was a flat bed with feed on it. But I love her...she's adorable.

Anyway, this post isn't about calves...it's about the mama's.

Speaking of mama's...

Here is Pitchfork Winstar Paradox 939...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 939 is Thayne & Missy's favorite...

Just a hunch...

She loves the camera. Every time I take pictures, she square up, puts her lovely ears forward and strikes a pose. Really, she's a pretty smart cow. In fact, I think she's rubbing off on her calf. That's him peeking out from behind her...

And then there is 9350...

Or in Red Angus registration land...Red Passion 9350

9350 didn't want to cooperate and have a nice picture taken...unlike 939.

But I tricked her and snuck this one in. But it doesn't do her justice. The photo is only average...and she's not your average cow.

She's such a reliable cow...and we like to say she could have an elephant.

That came in handy last year when she had twins!

I'm going out again this weekend to take more pictures of the calves and their mama's this weekend...

Hopefully better pictures, with better light, and cows squared up and not standing down hill...

But you can only ask for so much, right?

Prom Night

Clint took me to the PR prom last Saturday...

As a chaperone : )

And one of the student's moms made us each a corsage and boutonniere...

They were beautiful!

You know, we weren't used to staying up that late...

We're not spring chickens anymore...

But thanks to a Dr. Pepper and Diet Pepsi....

We made it through and had a great time!

And yes, I had to look up how to spell boutonniere...

And in a blink of the eye...

the snow was gone, and SPRING had returned...

I am so thankful to live where we do...

Where the scenery looks like this...

Where you can park your car in the middle of Highway 74 and not worry about anyone coming along....

While you take pictures of the neighbors new yearling calves...

Who at first started to run when I got out of the car...

But then I started to sweet talk them...

Ccmmmeerree Boosssssssss....

Coooommmmmeee Ooonnnnnn.....

Mrrr...........

(Isn't it funny how everyone has a different call for their calves? But how almost all cattle can understand each one and come running anyway?)

And they picked up their heads, and like most yearlings got curious....

And started to come closer...

I think they liked having their pictures taken...

Because those same yearlings were right across our driveway gate this morning when I left to go to work...

It's a good life we lead. A simple, joy-filled, happy, successful life.

And I love it....

What do you love?

Because at the end of the day, success (and love!) is reason enough.

Winter Wonderland...

In APRIL!

Umm....knock, knock...

Anyone out there?

Mr. Weatherman....

Not to be rude, but it's April....not January.

Last Wednesday looked like this....

This Wednesday, it looked like this....

And this morning it looked like this...

Pretty sure my daffodils aren't going to make it...

Crazy weather we're having, I tell ya!

Easter

at our house always results in Easter pictures.

Don't they at yours?

Remember when you were little and you would put on your new Easter dress and then stand on your porch with your Easter basket while your parents snapped pictures of you?

I do...

My mom would always make my sister and I matching dresses (see Lindsay, you're not the only one who dresses their kids in matching clothes) and my brother would have on a cute suit with a clip on tie...you weren't cool unless you had a clip on tie...

Ahh, the memories. Good thing I don't have the pictures with me to show you. That might be embarassing...

So last weekend Clint and I drove to my mom's house to have Easter lunch on Saturday, and while we were there, my mom's neighbor Katie (who is a pro at taking pictures) snapped a couple of family pictures here for your enjoyment....

Or amusement...

Oh, I'm just joking Mom!

- That's Clint, myself, my sister Lindsay, my mom Pat and my brother Shawn -

Uhhh....someone should have told me to fix my hair.

But they didn't....oh well.

Then we had dinner with my dad later that night at Golden Valley Brew Pub. Really, if you're in McMinnville and need to eat, that is the place to do it.

This is an older picture of "Mi Padre" with "Paco"

Then we went and pigged out at Coldstone for dessert. Don't you love Coldstone? Seriously, whoever thought of make-your-own-ice-cream was a genius.

Do you think they know about liquid nitrogen ice cream?

On that, I will leave you with that lovely, mix-in-whatever-you-may moment.

Happy Easter....a few days late....but sincerely!

Hi...larious

Raise your hand if you have visited The Pioneer Woman...

Well if you haven't, here is a taste...

Run...

Faster!

Run now!

This is only the beginning...how can someone be so funny?

All The Time!?!

Special thanks to Lindsay for showing me the light!

Missing....

Jace & Jacobi!

Who wouldn't miss these two?

For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Jace and Jacobi...

Jace aka "Cowboy" or "The Hired Man" is our nephew who loves ranching and all that goes with it....

Jacobi is our sweet, very funny little niece who has some "sass in her 'frass"....but she isn't afraid to work either...

And we miss them...

Pictures like these make us miss them even more...

and their parents...

and Papa Dave and Grandma Mellie...

Road trip anyone? Road trip to Nebraska?
