Titles...

So this blog's http address is http://www.sscharolais.blogspot.com/...

But rarely do you see me post pictures of Charolais cattle...

(For those of you who don't necessarily come from a cattle background...they're the white ones!)

Usually I post pictures of red cattle...because that is what we run for the time being here in Oregon.

But across the border into the great potato state of Idaho, Wade and his wife Kara have and take care of SS Charolais's cattle...

Clint Sexson + Wade Small = SS Charolais partnership!

Confused yet?

Anyway, last week after the Union Stock Show, Clint drove over to Vale, and met Wade to look at some calves out of a bull they sold to the Roman's family. He also picked up some heifers out of their cows that Wade had hauled over and brought them back to our house.

And while I would have liked them to stay here in Eastern Oregon, they were purchased by some great friends of ours in the valley...

So they were just making a pit stop at our house before heading the rest of the way to Dallas...

They were a curious bunch...but maybe that was because I had flakes of hay in my hot little hands...

These girls were after my own heart....they liked to eat! :)

Anyway, we're super excited for the Hinton family and hope these heifers fit into their rest of their herd!

Holy moly...

Whew...what a week.

...and I don't think I'm the only one who's saying that right now.

So for everyone out there who is ready for this day, this week, this month to be put behind them...

July is right around the corner. And I have a hunch it's gonna be a pretty stinkin' good month...

So hold on tight...

Smile on the outside...

Even if the inside isn't...

For the record, this picture was taken in May during my sister Paco's 21st birthday. Smiling on the inside and the outside here!

Piggly Wiggly's

What does it take to successfully birth 13 piglets?

A willing sow...

Meet *Daisy*

A willing crew...

Meet *The Crew*

These guys were awesome!

----------------

We had a lot of *crew* - which was fun!

Who knew a pig having babies would bring this many people together?

By the way, what's everyone doing in the middle of July?
Pencil in another farrowing!

Facilities...

* Farrowing crate *

* Fan for the sow's face - I like to think it's the equivalent of ice chips*

--------------

Not that I've ever had a baby, or know that ice chips are comforting during labor...

But they always show that on TV, so it's gotta be true? Right?

---------------

* String to tie off the umbilical cords *

We were using red curling ribbon...

Kind of like wrapping a new package...

*An eager freshman to make sure each piglet had a place to nurse...*

*And Heat Lamps*

Lots 'o heat lamps...

Baby piggies don't like to be cold!

*Oh, and a yoga mat*

So any old mat would do...

But all we had was my yoga mat...

So we cut it up for the babies to rest on...

I took one for the team :)

And all because...

* Success is Reason Enough *

Wedding Showers...

Bring tissue paper flowers!

Our friend Kathryn is getting married next month...

And what better way to celebrate, than with a wedding shower!

She and her fiance are getting married at her parent's home in Cananda, ('eh!) so most of us won't be able to make it...

So good friends Becky, Holly, Rita and Kristin decided to all throw a kickin' wedding shower!

Which, by the way, gave us a great excuse to get together,

eat great food (thanks again Hogan's!),

shower Kathryn with presents,

play fun games

and play with cute babies.

Because there were a lot of babies at the shower...

and Kathryn broke quite a few ribbons...

Which only means....

More babies to come!

Congrat's again Kathryn and Steve! Best, best wishes!

Lucky 13

Quick Update:

Daisy *the pig* had her piglets last night...

13 in all - healthy, wiggly, pink, and hungry.

More pictures to come later....

Chickens in a tree...

I found this amusing because:

1. Who ever sees chickens roosting in a tree?

2. It has been a long week, and this made me laugh.

3. That's all. Have a great Thursday....Friday is just around the corner!
(I had to tell myself that first thing this morning.)

Saturday Drive

Saturday was a day for driving.

Cattle, that is.

......................................................................................

4:00 am wake up call (I can't complain....these guys woke earlier then us)

Horses to saddle

*Note, I felt like Marlboro Man when I downloaded this picture...notice my horses ears?

Cows to gather

5 miles of highway to trail (can you call it "trailing" if you're on the highway?)

People driving by...

...taking pictures

...recording videos (we felt like charging money for their "experience")

Tired calves who needing some coaxing to keep going...

Good thing Mason and his mom were ready with their sticks...

Trailers to move

More miles to trail off of the highway

People to round up

Bears to see (yes, I saw my first bear Saturday!)

Sandwiches and chips to munch

Rocks and sticks to throw

..........................................................................

Though tiring, it was a day spent with friends...

And cute kiddo's...

And though everyone's rears were sore the next day (mine still is today, and I only rode half the time!)...

It was worth it. I think if asked, we'd do it again tomorrow.

Thankfully...we don't have to!

Have a great week...

...And Happy Birthday Lindsay!

Rain, rain, go away...

Holy cow, did we have some mega-thunderstorms last night!
Like, so much thunder and lightning that when I got to our gate at the top of the driveway (which is the tallest thing around for miles) I ran from my car to the gate, unlocked the gate, threw it open, and ran back to my car in like 3 seconds...

Well, maybe it was four :)

Anyway, I ran fast.

(I hadn't run that fast since college!)
Maybe if I ran that much now, I would look like I did in college...

Any-hoo...

I got to the house and let the dogs out of their kennel...

...and the poor dogs tried to crawl all over me

and then Katie just laid on the floor turning in circles

* Funny dogs *

They calmed down some after they figured out this thunder-stuff was going to be around for awhile.

But we did get an inch of rain out of the deal, and that is something to be thankful for.

Happy Thunderstorm-less Friday!

Wedded Bliss...

Last weekend, Clint's good friend Katy got married in Portland...

We met RJ and Sandy there...

I can imagine there are some pretty good stories about these three when they were at OSU...
...........................................................
Many of you may remember the horse Clint rode when we lived in Corvallis...
She's actually Katy's horse, and we got to check in with her when we were at the wedding...
She's still the same 'ol Fancy...
............................................................................................
Katy and her husband Travis live in Burns, and he really likes to hunt...
He even had a camo bow tie to go with his tux!
So there was a little "antler action" at the wedding...

But I thought it was pretty classy...
We had a great time, but most importantly, it was great to see two great people commit themselves to each other!
Happy Honeymooning!
