Take two...and three?

Remember these little guys?

The ones that now look like this?

................................................................

I thought this weekend was going to be pretty low key...

Just cleaning up the house and getting ready for Lindsay and her group of friends to come out to our house...

You know, cleaning the bathroom, mopping floors, mowing the lawn.

.......................................................

Then, last night when Clint came home, and I asked him how his day had been, he said "good".

"We got both of the sows prepped and in to the farrowing barn..."

Both?

Yup....two.

I think this weekend is going to look like a lot more like this...

Happy Friday!

Wednesday Thoughts...

Have you ever heard of Elbert Hubbard before?

I hadn't, but recently found one of his quotes online...

He lived in the late 1850's, and was an editor/publisher...

And he wore a wig.
But I guess a lot of people in the late 1850's wore wigs...

So then I looked for more of his quotes, and found out that this guy knew what he was talking about...

Hoping your Wednesday is wonderful!

Wednesday thoughts from Elbert Hubbard:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Initiative is doing the right things without being told”

“God will not look you over for medals degrees or diplomas, but for scars”

“Life in abundance comes only through great love”

“The final proof of greatness lies in being able to endure criticism without resentment”

“Love, we say, is life; but love without hope and faith is agonizing death”

“How many a man has thrown up his hands at a time when a little more effort, a little more patience would have achieved success.”

“A little more persistence, a little more effort, and what seemed hopeless failure may turn to glorious success.”

“Know what you want to do, hold the thought firmly, and do every day what should be done, and every sunset will see you that much nearer the goal.”

....hoping that I know what it is I want to do...

...and working towards that goal..

...and that someday, the sunset I see is viewed from property that we own...

...wherever that location ends up being...

These little piggies...

had a big week!

Earlier this week, Clint weaned the biggest pigs (8 in all) from *Daisy*...

He let the three smaller pigs stay on for awhile...he's nice like that :)

So the rest of the crew got new living quarters and are now fending for themselves.

They're doing well...they attack the pelleted feed, and love their new waterer...

But on Friday, we turned the "Boar" baby piglets into "Barrow" baby piglets...

Let's just say that Friday was not a bright spot in the week for the boys...

Success is reason enough!

Growth...

When you're green, you're growing...

And when you're ripe, you're rotten.

Part Deux...

From my previous post, you'll know we spent last week in Sacramento at the Charolais Junior National Show, where Lindsay showed *Vidalia*...

Vidalia is a very calm, sweet, lovable heifer...

Prove it, you say?

Bet you $5 she isn't that way, you exclaim?

Exhibit 1...

Exhibit 2...
Exhibit 3

:)

Oh, I didn't tell you Vidalia was bottle fed as a baby by the Dismukes Family?

Or that when anyone walks into the field she is in, she comes running up to them, hoping to get scratched?

My bad...

Guess that means you owe me $5.

By the way - Don't you love the windblown effect going on with Klanci's hair?

God bless cattle fans!

Vidalia was a happy camper...

And so were Hardy & Klanci!

The remaining pictures are just shots of us while we were down in Sacramento at the show...

Tuesday thoughts...

All is not butter that comes from the cow.
~Proverb

Parties who want milk should not seat themselves
on a stool in the middle of the field in hopes
that the cow will back up to them.
~Elbert Hubbard

Happy Tuesday!

Part I

In the words of Klanci, "California is ALWAYS hot!"...

And it was hot last week.

110 degrees, in fact.

But that didn't stop us from having a GREAT time in Sacramento...

Lindsay and I got in around 2 am on Thursday, and got a couple of hours of sleep before heading to the barns to watch the showmanship contest...

Then we ate a fabulous catered lunch before heading back to the hotel for a swim in the pool and naps...

Did I tell you this show/trip was low stress? Oh, I didn't? Well, it was...

Thursday night was the banquet (where over $42,000 was given away in scholarship money!) and chores...

Friday morning was the show...

Vidalia and Lindsay made a great pair...

And then back home to Oregon.

Most of the pictures we took were on Lindsay and Kati's cameras, so until I can get ahold of them, you'll have to cope with the pictures I took with our ancient (like 2004-ancient) Kodak camera...

I stole some great ideas from these centerpieces at the banquet...

A snapshot of Lindsay....

Meet...Hardy.

Hardy is really a sweet, well minded 7 year old...

See?

And meet Klanci, Hardy's sister...

Meet Brian and Kati....Hardy and Klanci's dad and mom...

And our good friends!

And finally, meet Vidalia...

The main reason for the trip.

More to come....

White Rush to the Gold Rush...

Tomorrow Lindsay and I are headed south to Sacramento...

To meet up with this guy...

...the Hinton Family and "Vidalia"

*Vidalia* is a Charolais heifer...
She's sweet, white and plump....just like a Vidalia onion!

It's a white rush of Charolais cattle to the gold rush state of California...

Good cattle...fun times...friends and plenty of memories are expected...

...but tonight, I'm only California Dreamin'...

We're fighting!

My friend Kerri used to always say that to her friends...

In only the way that Kerri can...

By the way - It was great to see you this weekend Kerri!

So a week ago, at Olive Lake...

This "fight" ensued....

Good thing I was there to referee :)

Cheers...

Be of good cheer.
Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow.
You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere;
and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles.
Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost.
- Helen Keller -

Hoping you find your something "beautiful" today...

A day at the lake...

Last Sunday was a day at the lake...

Olive Lake to be exact.

After pulling up in the pickups,

Food and drinks were unpacked onto the picnic table and then scarfed down (we were hungry!)...

Intertubes, fishing poles and folding chairs were unpacked...

But before jumping in, toes were dipped to check the temperature...

Even the dogs dipped their paws in...

But Karl ran full speed ahead and cannon-balled straight into the lake...

That's him on the right....

And while the water was warm...it wasn't THAT warm!

Pictures were taken...

Games of fetch were played...

Tubes were floated...

Fishing poles were cast...

And a fight was had...

What? A fight?!? On a great day like this...

to be continued...
