Lent begins tomorrow...
Whew! I thought it began last week, and that I was way behind. Has anyone else felt this way this entire month?
...and anyway, I've been struggling with what to give up for the Lent season.
In 2004 I gave up drinking coffee during Lent.
Prior to, I drank a 16oz skinny iced mocha every day. If I didn't, I got a huge headache. (I know - we can talk about my caffeine dependence another time.)
So I gave up coffee in 2004 - and haven't drank the stuff since then. Not even when I worked at a coffee shop the first fall after college!
(I do drink 3 cans of Diet Pepsi a day though now....so maybe not so much of a success.)
Last year I gave up swearing - but unfortunately, that one wasn't like my coffee sacrifice....
But I'm trying to be better!
This year - 2010 - I've decided to give up fried foods.
I know -
No more mini tacos or stuffed spud bites from the grocery store deli.
The migas I've been wanting to try (per Lindsay's recommendation) from PW's cookbook will have to wait.
Weekend breakfast's from McD's will have to be without hashbrowns and ketchup.
And while giving up fried foods isn't the most worldly sacrifice, I thought this quote was important for this season:
