The road led us to here.
We came back to Nebraska for a lot of reasons...
To let Clint ranch full-time.
To help Dave & Mel transition into a slower pace.
To spend more time with Clint's family.
To watch our niece & nephew grow up.
To build a foundation on which to raise a family.
But like with most things, coming here came with sacrifices.
We left friends & other family, and a great lifestyle.
We've lived four hours apart from one another during the work week.
(The poor EQ - I hit 10,000 miles on it today, and I've only had it since December.)
While we've been living "the good life", we've also had to adjust to our "new life".
And you know what -
It has ALL been worth it.
But sometimes you have to know when it's time to move to the next pasture...
It's like when a group of calves bust through a fence.
You tried your best to prevent it, but now all you can do is evaluate & progress.
Do you mend what's been broken?
Or do you start all over and build a new fence?
As 2011 rolled in, we were presented with some challenges.
The bid on the ranch wasn't enough, and a neighboring ranch's was.
But when God closes a door, He also opens a window.
About that same time, as we were looking for other ranches to potentially buy or lease, an opportunity came along that would let me transfer back to Pendleton with my job.
We found the window.
So we're headed back to Oregon.
And we'll miss our family & life we've begun to build here.
But we can't change the past, and all we can do is run at the future.
And so, the new road leads us to here again -
Here's to change.
Here's to putting the pieces together.
Here's to a new foundation back in the Columbia Basin.
Here's to returning to old friends.
Here's to family memories.
Here's to the future.
