Day 30.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving....

I'm giving thanks this month each day on my blog.

......

Day 30

I'm thankful for a life of width.

I've posted this quote here before, but it still sticks with me;

"In the end, everyone ends up at the length of their lives —
but only a few live the whole width of a life."
-Ann Voskamp

..............

I am not perfect.
I may not do things perfectly.
And I am not striving for perfection.
..............

What I am striving for is a life lived with width.

Fullness, thankfulness & joy.
Love, comraderie, pride & presence.

Here's to continuing to count the blessings, be thankful for the things that count, and living with width.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving....

I'm giving thanks this month each day on my blog.

......

Day 29

I'm thankful for our {Nebraska} family.

I'm back here at training, and there is a group of folks here from Nebraska FSA.  It's been fun catching up with them, and seeing how things are going back there.

But it also makes me miss our family & friends back there -

While things may not have worked out the way we thought they would, our time and experiences there were worthwhile, a growing process and something I'd do again if needed.

Day 28

I'm thankful for safe travels & new opportunities to learn.

I'm in Kansas City this week for a work training, and I'm looking forward to learning a brand new operating system, meeting other FSA employees from across the country, and hopefully learning a few things so I don't look too silly when I come back to Oregon to help train my peers.

Because that could easily happen.

Happy Wednesday!

I'm giving thanks this month each day on my blog.

Day 27

I'm thankful that Clint & I can share a {hobby}.

Clint and RJ breed a lot of cows & heifers every year.  Clint & RJ breed, and I usually pull the straws of semen.

I realize that I am lucky, in that our lifestyle allows me to spend a lot of time with Clint in a way that not every spouse gets to experience.

Usually we don't start breeding until the first part of December, when we help breed the cows & heifers at LGW and Double M.  But this year, Meadow Acres synchronized a group of replacement heifers in late November, and asked if RJ & Clint would breed them.

So we spent Sunday afternoon after Thanksgiving in the breeding box.

It's funny how we can get right back into the swing of things in our little box, after a few months off.

3 Generations of Correa's
Here's to a succesful winter breeding season!

And continued patience, love & understanding from Clint & RJ!  Lol.

Day 26

I'm thankful for surprises.

Our good friend Anna turned 60 this weekend, and her family planned a surprise party for her.

(They also took her to Disneyland...check out Jenny's blog for all of the fun pictures.)

We were in charge of getting her to the surprise party....which may have involved a few white lies.

Which Anna totally called me out on, afterwards.

I told her that I had taken pictures of a family that day, and that they wanted their disc that evening.  But that they were at a wedding reception, so I had to drop it by the reception venue before we took her to dinner.  The "reception" was at a beautiful barn all set up for parties & where all of Anna's family & friends were waiting to surprise her.  She wanted to know, "Whose wedding is it?"....I said, "I don't know.  I didn't recognize the name, but I guess they're ag people"  Then once we got to the barn, I asked her if she wanted to come inside and see the decorations.

She answered decisively - No.

So I walked into the barn where everyone is huddled with the lights on low, ready to yell SURPRISE, and I said...."She won't come in."

Alecia, who was there waiting, said "Tell her there's margaritas at the bar!"

Sure enough, that did the trick.  *wink*

It was a great surprise, a great party, and a great time celebrating a great friend, wife, mother & person.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving....

I'm giving thanks this month each day on my blog.

......

Day 25

I'm thankful for our Christmas tree.

Last night when we were celebrating Anna's birthday (pictures to come!) I got a text from our friend Betsy that said her dad was going to head our way with a Christmas tree.

Betsy & her dad Dave live on a farm outside of Albany where they grow Christmas trees & filberts, and last year brought us the most beautiful Christmas tree to have in our home.  They made a quick trip over last year, and this year Betsy said they'd be bringing us a tree again.

{Hooray!}

Betsy stayed home, since they had people coming to cut trees, but at 7:15 this morning, our phone rang, and it was Dave saying he was sitting at the Space Age, with our trees in tow.

Bryan, Dave & Clint

What a lovely, quick visit we had.

Thank you Betsy & Dave for our Christmas tree.

But as thankful as we are for it, we're the most thankful for your friendship.

Let the Christmas Season begin!

Day 24.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving....

I'm giving thanks this month each day on my blog.

......

Day 24

I'm thankful to be an OSU Beaver!

I actually didn't start my college career at OSU.  I always thought I wanted to get a Dairy Science degree, and there were only a handful of schools that offered that specific degree.  One of them was Cal Poly, in San Luis Obispo.  So I chose that school, and headed down there in my white F-150 in the fall of 2002.

I really enjoyed Cal Poly, and the people there....but I quickly realized that I did not love the dairy industry as much as the others around me did.

I decided that my future probably lay more in the Animal Sciences/Ag Education field, and that spending money on out of state tuition for a degree I could get a home wasn't very resourceful.  So I applied to OSU and transferred there winter term of 2003.

The rest is history.

OSU was a GREAT experience, and I never regretted my choice.

Everything happens for a reason.

{Plus - If I hadn't have gone to OSU, my sister & I couldn't give my brother a hard time for being a Duck.}

 Speaking of rivalries;

Today is the annual Civil War - a day when families draw a line across their living rooms, friends get together to cheer for the teams and when hopefully...

I'm thankful for my husband.

I don't know what my life would look like without him - and I don't care to know.

I am loved, beyond blessed, and continually amazed at how good of a husband he is to me.

He works to make a life worth living, and I'm thankful to be able to join him on the ride.

I love you Clint - forever and ever, and no matter what.

......

Day 22

I'm thankful for my family.

My cousin Alicia probably said it best this week;

"Being together - virtually or in person, at Thanksgiving is really what matters most."

We spent the day in the Willamette Valley, spending time with my mom, and also my dad and then headed back east in the evening.

(No Black Friday shopping for us - we both had to work on Friday.)

Clint & I with my Dad at his house

The turkey my brother smoked on his Traeger at my Mom's

We also got to visit with Clint's family by phone, and it sounded like they were all enjoying a nice Thanksgiving as well.

There are a lot of things that I am thankful for - and my family is at the top of the list.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Day 20.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving....

I'm giving thanks this month each day on my blog.

......

Day 20

I'm thankful for the big 30.

I wasn't so sure if I could really publish that statement today.

But after care consideration, and a lot of self-bargaining, I think it's true.

Even if it is a bit scary.

And I'm still self-bargaining as I type this.

I'm not really sure why - birthdays haven't always been that big of a deal to me.  And once I turned 21, I figured that was really the last "big" birthday.

PS - I still remember my 21'er....and the great friends who helped me celebrate at El Pres - you know who you are!  :)

And I remember waking up bright and early for my 8:00 am class the next day - and feeling like a champion!  Pretty sure if I re-lived that night again though, I wouldn't feel the same way though in the morning.

But today I'm officially 30.

And I'm going to enjoy it, live it, and love it.

I'm healthy, happy and loved.

There's not much more I can ask for, and I'm very thankful for that.

Here's a look at the past 30 years....

30 pictures for 30 years.

Those years have treated me pretty darn well.

I hope the next 30 are just as great.

Day 19.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving....

I'm giving thanks this month each day on my blog.

......

Day 19

I'm thankful for the simple things I take for granted.

Today, I stood in the checkout line in the grocery store, and didn't have to worry about how I was going to pay for our evening meal, because we both have jobs that provide us with a good living.

I came home to a warm house, with four solid walls and a roof that will protect us from the wind that whips outside the door tonight.

I got into a car that started easily this morning, and carried me safely to work.

I didn't have to worry about whether I'd have hot water to take a shower with this morning, whether or not I could wash my clothes, because we have a working washer & dryer, and would my food still be safe, because our refrigerator is reliable.

It's easy for me to forget how much the {little} stuff really counts.
And that there are a lot of people who live with less, have to put up with more, and at the end of the day are still proud of what they have.
So here's to celebrating the simple, ordinary pleasures that really aren't so simple.

......

Day 18

I'm thankful for birthday surprises.

Even though my birthday isn't until Tuesday, I was sure suprised when Clint, Lindsay & Henry, Anna & Terry, and Lindsay & Ian surprised me by all going to dinner in Tri-Cities.

We ate at Fujiyama, a Japanese steak house.

First we enjoyed a drink in the bar...and bantered with the bartender who was a Duck fan...
Then we were seated, and the fun began!

Cesar, our chef put on a great show,
starting with the classic {onion volcano},
which turned into...

Good thing the little pee-pee guy was there to put out the fire.

Lindsay made sure there was a beautiful - and yummy - birthday cake there, and the restaurant did their {birthday drumming} with Japanese drums.

I may have added a few moves to their normal birthday dance.
Thankfully I still had a ride home at the end of the evening.

Henry showed us his excellent chopstick skills....

I think it is pretty safe to say that everyone had a great time.

You only turn 30 once, I guess.
And I don't think I would have chosen a different way to celebrate.

Thank you to my family & friends who made this birthday surprise happen - I'm thankful for all of you!

I'm thankful for Double M & the people who work here.

Clint works for a tremendous family, and there's a reason we enjoy what we do so much.

Everyone is here to be successful, efficient and good cattlemen.

People pitch in when someone else needs help, they care about one another, and they all work together until the job is done.

At the end of the day, after all of the work is done -

We're also all thankful for happy & healthy cattle.

I'm thankful that I get to be an "Aunt Darcy".

We are very close to Clint's sister's kids Jace and Jacobi.

One of the hardest things about moving back to Oregon, was moving away from them.

They are great kids; even though they're growing up - and soon we aren't going to be able to call them kids anymore.  :(

I sure loved opening my email this week and seeing that Jacobi won the poster contest at her school!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving....

I'm giving thanks this month each day on my blog.

......

Day 14

I'm thankful for having had the opportunity to be on a Livestock Judging Team.

It was this week, eight years ago, I walked out of the West Exhibition Hall at the NAILE in Louisville, KY, not quite sure what to think.

It was all over.

I'd spent the better portion of the year on a roller coaster ride that changed me, stuck with me, and provided me opportunities and experiences I wouldn't have otherwise had.

I had experienced more failure than I knew possible, and cried more tears than I even knew existed.

But I also experienced something that will stick with me forever, and that can't ever be taken away.

I grew as a person, as a livestock evaluator, and as a teammate.

2004 Oregon State University Livestock Judging Team
Back - Clint, Beau, Kyle
Front - Kerri, Kate, Shannon, Myself & Jamie

I've talked about before how I ended up on the LJT at OSU.

But there are some things that can't be put into words.

Things that can only be experienced in a white 12-passenger van, headed down the middle of the road on the center line in Southern Wyoming into Colorado after judging wool sheep in Laramie at 1:00 am in the morning.

About sharing a room with three other girls, and knowing which side of the bed is "yours".

About having an appreciation for not having to stay in another Super 8, and having two sinks in your hotel room in Fort Worth.

About having your teammate run 2 circles around the van on the interstate median outside of Phoenix, because they couldn't "contain" themselves.  Multiple times.

About how coaches can give so much of themselves to see you succeed.

About how some people can eat a Whopper that's been sitting unrefrigerated underneath the van seat for two days and not get food poisoning.

About how when you're in Texas, it's not a "barrow" - it's a "barra".

About how life skills can be taught outside of the classroom.

About remembering your teammates sing "Mayberry" on the way to Fresno.

About needing a pair of pliers to get out of your judging pants.

About knowing that the team around you was competing viciously for your spot.

And that they were also there to be your biggest fans.

......

It all "ended" that day eight years ago.

But it didn't really end.  I don't think it ever will.

Once you've been a member of a judging team - livestock, dairy, horse, etc. - you always know that drive, the passion, fierce competitiveness, the work ethic....

And the comraderie.

......

Congratulations to the teams & individuals who got their name called yesterday at the Executive West.

And to those of you who didn't - your work & effort wasn't in vain.

You've all been able to experience something many won't ever have the opportunity to.
And you know without explanation why

"Success is Reason Enough"

..............

PS -
A special congratulations to Jake Warnjtes, a fellow Oregonian, who was a member of the 2012 National Champion Judging Team from Oklahoma State University.  We sure enjoyed getting to see you be successful.

And congratulations to Clint Rusk, Clint's coach from his Colorado State days - we're glad you finally got to be a part of a National Championship Team.  It is well deserved.
