40.

Today my handsome man turns the big 40.

It seems as if I've blinked, and the last ten years have flown by.
But all of the experiences and memories we've made still stick with me.

We talk a lot about memories, when it's just the two of us.
Your memory usually serves better than mine (no surprise there), but I still remember the cups of coffee at Starbucks when we were dating, the late night checks at the ranch when I was just happy to be sitting next to you on the bench seat in the pickup as you spotlighted cows, all of the trips we took together, and the lazy Sunday afternoons when we'd be at home, just the two of us.

And while the past has been wonderful - I am even more excited about our future.

I didn't know how you'd handle turning 40, but as this week approached, it hasn't seem like it's phased you a bit.  I probably should have known that - there isn't much that phases you, so I don't know why I would think that a birthday would.  You're still determined, thoughtful, generous and a man of your word.  These things about you haven't changed, and I imagine they never will.

Most people don't realize that horses are your first love; because you're such an excellent cowman.  Your eye for livestock is one that many admire and you possess the kind of detail that many of us wish for along with a memory that always serves you well.

Your cell phone is usually ringing; we went to unlimited minutes this year and it was a good thing.  You're a good friend, and visit often with those who are closest to you.  The phone is usually on speaker phone, while you multi-task and talk at the same time. Sometimes I hop in the pickup right as you're cracking a joke with a friend, and I get to hear the laughter.

How I love to see you laugh.

You have an eye to the future, and are usually working on a project in your head.  I know not to throw away any scraps of paper with your writing on them, because they usually hold details of what's coming next in our lives.  You're a planner, but can improvise if necessary.  The things you think of - whether it's a winch to weigh calves, a specific way to set up an alley of panels or a method for getting a set of cows bred - are always done with great care & thoughtfulness.  And they're done the right way, the first time.

On your 40th birthday, know that you have a wife that loves you more today than I did yesterday, and I'll love you even more tomorrow.  You are my rock, my source of comedic relief, and the best husband I could ever ask for.

On your birthday, when I should be giving you a gift - know that you are a gift to me.
Every day I am thankful for you.

Happy Birthday Clint.
I love you, and wish you at least 40 more.
Love, Darcy
