Home with Hand, Foot & Mouth

Hand, foot & mouth....

It's like the 2017 version of chicken pox, but without the itching.

Chandler didn't feel well last Friday, but only had a fever and wouldn't eat. He was still fussy part of Saturday, but I chalked it up to Clint leaving for California and a lot of activity since we'd celebrated Thanksgiving with my family that day. Later that afternoon though, the bumps showed up and I was pretty sure he had HF&M.

When I called Clint to tell him, he asked urgently "Where did he get that?!?".

For those not in the cattle business, there's a really serious disease called Foot & Mouth in cattle that is not zoonotic to people.  When there is a Foot & Mouth outbreak, borders close, exports stop....it's a pretty big deal economically.

Luckily, Hand Foot & Mouth isn't that serious and I explained that the two weren't the same thing to Clint. ;)   HF&M is really contagious so Chandler stayed home from daycare this week and since Clint's in California, I stayed home from work.  He felt better Sunday afternoon and didn't have a fever but he did have active sores so we tried to quarantine ourselves from little kids.  That meant we spent a lot of time at home, trying to entertain ourselves....

We've played, napped, ran errands, mailed Christmas cards, video called daddy, worked on auction wrap up and went to my office and picked up my laptop so I could address a few deadlines.

As much as I hated that Chan didn't feel good last weekend, and the missed work time - I've also enjoyed the mini vacation.  We've had great weather this week, and it's been fun to see the sunrises, check cattle in the daylight, and let Chandler play outside.

We should be back to normal next week, and that will be good too.

Hope you've all had a great week too....minus the bumps.  ;)

Everyday life.

Nothing major going on at our house, just every day life.

Chandler is a water baby, and loves to play in the sink.  He pulls a chair up, can turn the faucet on, and has a host of plastic cups, shakers, plates and utensils that he can play with.

He just plays away while I make breakfast, or dinner.  And if Clint isn't home, during that time you'll probably find Cal in the swing.  I'd say he tolerates it....the swing isn't his favorite but sometimes mama just needs two hands to get dinner done.

And sometimes life calls for cookies....before dinner.  ;)

Lindsay & Henry brought Chandler Alfajor cookies from Argentina when they were here for Thanksgiving, and you could say he's a fan.

So that's just a little peek at everyday life.  I'm sure glad it's ours.

Calvin - 5 months.

Calvin David Dean

5 months buddy!  Time is flying for your proud mama & daddy.

No official stats since we don't see your doctor this month, but you just moved into 9 month clothing and size 3 diapers.   I think you're doing just fine.  ;)

You are thiiiiss close to rolling all the way over on your own and think it's so funny.  You get all of the way over, except for your shoulder.....someday those broad shoulders will come in handy, but today they kind of get in the way of you rolling completely over.  Pam says she's been trying to teach you to lift your head (so your shoulder will follow) but no dice so far.

You've really started to enjoy sitting in your bouncer this month, and your brother thinks it's so funny to talk & play with you one on one.

I thought you'd get teeth this month, but none have popped thru yet. :) You still like to gum or chew on anything you can get close to your mouth.

We've given you small tastes of food (rice cereal, pudding, squash) but so far you're not really interested....you more just want to hold the spoon, or anything else we're holding.  And I don't get to give you a lot of bottles, but last week you showed me you were running the show when it came to feeding you and that you were happy to hold it.  (Which is SO unlike your brother, who I don't think held a bottle until he was 16 months old.)

You giggle all the time, and it is so CUTE!  Your brother is the best one at making you laugh though.  You think your brother is hilarious. He thinks it's funny to stick his fingers in your mouth, which you like too. (Although I have to watch....you stick your fingers into Chandler's mouth, but he bites....which we found out the hard way.)

I hope you two stay fast friends forever.

We love you buddy!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a pretty low key day - we're celebrating Saturday with my family, so today was all about staying in our PJ's as long as possible, and laying low.  Clint went to Joseph first thing in the morning to help Jess get a cow in, and so the boys and I hung out at home and got things ready for this weekend.

Our two little turkeys.  :)

Chandler loves to be next to me when I'm cooking, so instead of helping on the stove, I let him help with the syringes Clint had cleaned and let dry on the counter the day before.  He was in heaven figuring out how to use them!

And it kept his little hands away from the hot stove - #momwin!

Chandler's Tee - On Sale! - Bouncer

Christmas came a litttle early for the Chan man!

Clint found this adorable solid oak pony on Craigslist, and brought it home for the boys!  It took a little bit, but Chandler has figured out how to rock himself on it (versus us rocking him) and he loves it!

And how pretty is it next to our tree?

Yes - I'm decorating for Christmas....both of the boys were napping at the same time yesterday - #momwin - so I started!  We'll decorate the tree and do little things this weekend, but it was nice to get the "big" stuff up.

These aren't affiliate links, but I love, love, love the quality of this tree & this garland.  And it stores & pulls out like a dream!

I also put a little tree in Chandler's room and he loved it!

Speaking of Christmas - if you still have some shopping to do  - there are some great sales today!

I'm about done, but I did pick up a cardigan (or two, but who's counting?) for myself, and a few Boden holiday tees for the boys.
